Antique Guatemalan Majolica Incensario. The incensario was used in Guatemalan religious brotherhoods called Cofradias, to hold and burn incense to honor saints. The cage like structure was to keep the fire from extinguishing and is often accompanied by guard animals, called fire guards, that keep unwanted spirits out. Unique and rare. A beautiful collection of traditional Antigua style Majolica and a real piece of Folk Art and history. Item is in good condition, it feels heavy and sturdy but does show imperfections at the base and small chips shown in photos. Approximately 10” tall x 7” wide shops x 7” deep.
