This is an mid-century Turkish rug. It is hand knotted with all wool fiber on a cotton warp and weft as are the majority of all oriental rugs. Many Afghan and Caucasian rugs are all wool and some Turkish and Iranian rugs are silk . The design is geometric in nature with some floral elements and the dyes used are not synthetic. It is a country rug not made in a city factory but likely made by one person on a home loom. It has a central medallion on an unusual black field. It has approximately 80 hand tied knots per square inch, making it a coarse to medium fine rug. It is rust, white, green, and black. This rug is in excellent condition for its age, has no spots worn to the foundation and has no stains. It is quite heavy for its size giving it a plush feel.. I have been selling on eBay for 24 years and have 100% shops feedback Oriental rugs need not be so expensive but be aware of machine made rugs and factory made hand-tied rugs using petrochemicals and poorly paid labor.
