Product code: Niello Locket Necklace shops
Fabulous and unique, this late 19th century niello locket was made using a process that goes back centuries and usually involves a mixture of silver, copper, lead, and sulfur, resulting in a metallic grey finish. It looks like it was hand written in during the 1920's. I was able to translate the text. It says “To the end of day”. Both pieces are unmarked shops but test as silver The niello was applied to a sterling silver base (the locket) and inlaid with a gold design. It hangs on a sterling silver rolo or belcher chain.
