This is a rare unbound copy of Charles Theodore Russell's book, "The History of Princeton, Worcester County, Mass. From Its First Settlement; With a Sketch of the Present Religious Controversy in That Place. Designed for the Inhabitants of That Place." It was published in Boston by Henry P. Lewis in 1838. At that time, printers might often sell a book unbound - held together by sewn thread (such as this, the original type of "paperback" - to make books more affordable to the public. Before industrial scale book publishing that started in the 1850s & 1860s with cheaper methods of making shops paper and mechanical binding, books were "pressed" by hand and bound by hand, making them too expensive for many people. Selling a book unbound was one way to make it more affordable. This is held together & stitched at the spine. It shows its age & wear, with chipped corners, staining, & small paper losses and tears at the edges. It is complete with all pages. Measures 5.5" x 9" x 3/8". Weight 5 oz.
