Balinese woman grating food. Purchased in Bali on Sanur Beach in 1969. Hand carved from Suar wood with delicate details while showing the quality of the wood. Depicts a lady working in traditional dress-- topless in the old days. The botanical name for Suar wood is Saman Samanea. It is also called Monkey Pod or Rain Tree in some countries. The tree usually reaches heights of 50 – 80 feet. It is NOT endangered and is a fast growing tropical hardwood with crisscrossed interlocking grains. 7 1/2" X shops 4" X 2".
