Description

Product Name: Large Vasa Murrhina shops Art Glass peach rose bowl
Vasa Murrhina Art Glass Company of Sandwich, Massachusetts, starting around the mid-1880's. The glassware was transparent and was embedded with small pieces of colored glass and metallic flakes. The mica flakes were coated with silver, gold, copper, or nickel. Some of the pieces were cased. The same type of glass was made in England. Collectors often confuse Vasa Murrhina glass with aventurine, spatter, or spangle glass. There is uncertainty about what actually was made by the Vasa Murrhina factory. Vasa Murrhina means "vessel of gems." This lovely rose bowl, circa 1910, not cased, was hand-blown with a crimped or ruffled edge hand-formed by the glassblower. The colors are a mixture of white, peach, clear and mica creating a gorgeous combination. It has a unpolished pontil. Approximately 5” tall by 5” wide shops. I've also been challenged that this was from Phoenix Art Glass, Joseph Webb, c. 1883-1888. I can say the color combination is gorgeous. Great piece of victorian glass!!.
