Antique John Maddock & Sons Royal Vitreous Demitasse Cups & Saucers. Set of 8. This is the perfect size for serving espresso or cappuccino. Made in England. Green and white. Vitrified. 16 pieces in total. Pattern is Athena. All in very good condition. NO CHIPS OR CRACKS. ONLY SAW LITTLE CRAZING ON BOTTOM OF 1 OR 2 SAUCERS. Saucers are 5" and cups stand 2.5" tall. A Beautiful piece of history. See all pics. THE company, John Maddock and Sons, was founded about 1830. Though some believe John Jr. started the company shops, he was only 23 at the time. It is more likely that his father was the founder. The business was located on Newcastle Street, Burslem Stafford Shire/County, England. John Jr. married Martha Knowles, and among his children was James Maddock. According to a write up about him at www.thepotteries.org/ware/maddock, John had a partnership from 1839 to 1842 with a Mr. Seddon. At first they made granite ware to export to America, but through the years advanced to fine ch.
