OLD Antique Marble (?) Chinese Foo Dog Stone Chop Seal Stamps. Not exactly sure what kind of natural stone these are made of. Hand carved foo dogs sit on top of an old chop seal stamp. Remnants of red ink still evident in seals. Each dog has puppies on the ground and crawling on their backs. There are 2 columns shops of Chinese characters inscribed on the front side of each statue. The bottoms have a carved seal/stamp. These 2 chop seals were part of an affluent client's estate that came in for sale in our antique shop. The are solid and quite heavy. Some chips and surface cracks due to age and authentic wear but no breaks and no repairs. That is the only information that I can offer. In China, a company chop – sometimes referred to as a seal or stamp – are mandatory for doing business. The seal replaces signatures that are used more commonly in Western countries. A company seal is the tangible representative and legal evidence of the company's activities abroad.
