Insert the prong on one side of the snap into the fabric, with the prong on the wrong side. Slide the washer over the tip and bend the tip down. (I find it best to bend the forks inwards so they overlap rather than outwards - this can cause the fabric to tear). For added stability, add seams or plastic canvas to the reverse side of the fabric before cutting the seam.
